Growing food and community in the Nation’s capital

Take back control of your food system.

Farm the District is a non-profit organization operating in Washington, DC, which aims to promote food production in our urban areas. Globalization has led to our urban areas. Globalization has led to our urban populations becoming more reliant on outside sources for fresh, healthy food. Farm the District helps create and manage urban farms across the Nation’s Capital, giving people control of their own food security.

Materials for Learning

Farm the District is developing educational materials to help new urban farmers with their projects. Farming in an urban environment comes with a unique set of challenges and also opportunities. Our educational materials provide how-tos on starting seeds and also how to build foot-traffic to your urban farm.

Building Community

We create the infrastructure and tools necessary to help you build community. Green spaces are meant to grow food, but also create a space for sharing, learning, and socializing. We can help you create intentional spaces meant for everything from quiet meditation to outdoor event spaces.

Support Urban Food Systems

Urban farming can play an important role in bolstering our food systems - making healthy food more accessible and equitable. Fruits and vegetables have high concentrations of necessary vitamins and minerals, and research shows that increasing dietary diversity can improve health outcomes and overall food security. Urban farms have a duty to grow food that fill dietary gaps. By farming the district, you can help take back control over your food system.
